Installing blackout blinds in bedrooms could benefit those who have trouble sleeping or are seeking to improve their quality of sleep. Blackout blind users often experience deeper or longer periods of sleep.

Blackout blinds come in various colours, textures, and fabrics. Black, off-white, grey, and custom prints are available to control your level of light filtering—from complete blackouts to subtle light control.

Blackout blinds are popular for their potential sleep benefits, especially for those who work at night or live in a sun-intense area.

Our range of blackout roller blinds is also dust and mould resistant. While these elements may still be present in your living spaces, having one less avenue for dust and mould to thrive helps manage conditions and symptoms exacerbated by dust or mould.

Our extensive range of blackout blinds is made of polyester with dust and mould-resistant properties. Some of our fibres have acrylic coating or foamed acrylic backing for temperature regulation. These technical components impact weight and the level of light opacity.

Our blackout blinds can be made to order with a print of your choice. If the styles and colours in our blackout range do not match your preference, this option lets you hand-pick what your blinds will look like. Personalised blackout blind adds character and a curatorial touch to your home without compromising light-blocking capabilities.

Custom-printed blinds are also a great option for enhancing a business, whether used in a customer-facing setting or to benefit your employees. Chat with us about what you’d like on your custom-printed blind.

Order a blackout blind according to the appropriate setting, whether commercial or residential. In addition to choosing your preferred style, colour, and size, you can customise your mounts, rollers, controls, bottom rails, and cord design.

Blackout blinds are best cleaned with a duster or dry, soft cloth. For targeted cleaning, gentle application of a wet cloth will be helpful. Avoid using abrasives or heavy-duty cleaners such as solvents or industrial products.

Have a question about Venetian Blinds?

Venetian blinds are a popular option for controlling light and privacy while maintaining ventilation. Their durability makes them suitable across your home, from the kitchen to the bedroom. Diverse colour options also make Venetian blinds a versatile addition to many interior styles; they are also colour-coordinated with the slats for a seamless look.

Venetian blinds with cords are easy to use. Pull the lift cord to release it, and once it is adjusted to your preferred height, pull it away to the side to keep it in place. The other cord controls the angle to tilt it away or towards you.

Cordless Venetian blinds are adjustable by lifting or pushing from the bottom. Rotating the rod or wand will tilt the slats to your liking.

Aluminium metal Venetian blinds add a contemporary look to your home while offering precise lighting control due to their thin slats. Wooden Venetian blinds bring a timeless atmosphere, while faux wood options combine the aesthetic of wood with the benefits of modern composite plastics.

Venetian blinds are convenient to clean. Open the blinds to create space between each slat. Use a feather duster or microfibre cloth regularly to prevent dust build up.

Wooden blinds are best kept tidy with dry cloths, whereas aluminium blinds can benefit from damp cloths.

We recommend lowering your Venetian blinds for optimal performance over time, as they were designed to rest fully extended. Raise them for cleaning or accessing windows, and lower them when done.

Our wooden Venetian blinds are made of premium Phoenixwood. This lightweight material boasts one of the best strength-to-weight ratios among wooden and non-wooden shutters. Custom kiln-dried and processed with prescription conditioning, Phoenixwood is thoughtfully crafted to sustain the wood’s integrity in the long term.

Faux wood blinds are assembled using resilient polymers, which make them convenient to maintain. Their enhanced moisture resistance makes them appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas of your home susceptible to the elements. Their smooth finish imitates wood grain texture, making faux wood aesthetically pleasing.

Our Norman range of faux wood features PVC slats with UV protection and is routless for superior privacy.

Have a question about Vertical Blinds?

Vertical blinds provide privacy control and allow fine-tuning of light levels. They can also make your room appear taller to amplify spaciousness. Vertical blinds are ideal for rooms with ranch sliders or tall windows where other blinds aren’t practical.

Vertical blinds collect less dust than regular blinds and curtains, simplifying cleaning. A duster or cloth is practical for removing dust, and a wet cloth can target specific areas.

Using a pencil, paper, and measuring tape, measure three points in your window across width and drop (height). Use the smallest dimensions. For more information, read our installation guide for inside and outside fits.

Vertical blinds are suitable for residential and commercial spaces, bringing a professional look to the latter where necessary. They are best used for ranch sliders or longer windows that require coverage without sacrificing light control.

We sell an extensive range of replacement accessories for vertical blinds, including louvre hangers, chainless weights, bottom link chains, and full maintenance kits.

Vertical honeycomb blinds feature two light control options: room darkening and light filtering. Regular honeycomb blinds are single-opacity.

Smart drapes use a wand mechanism to change the opacity of the blinds, allowing you to switch between two settings: sheer light filtering and solid fabric. Despite these adjustments, you can still walk through the blinds due to the individual vanes. Smart drapes are soft and delicate, enhancing indoor-outdoor flow without compromising privacy.

Have a question about Honeycomb Blinds?

Honeycomb blinds, also known as thermacell or cellular blinds, are composed of hexagonal chambers stacked together to create a unique structure. These blinds create a barrier for thermal insulation, trapping heat up to three times more efficiently than standard curtains.

Honeycomb blinds offer added visual intrigue at a glance to an indoor living space. Light-filtering honeycomb shades diffuse light from outside without darkening the room. Room darkening shades use mylar to block light and enhance thermal efficiency, making them a good fit for bedrooms.

Honeycomb blinds are compatible with regular windows, sloped skylights, and sliding doors.

We offer three options for honeycomb blind controls: corded, cordless, and top-down, bottom-up SmartRise. Among these options, different levels of light filtering and room darkening are available. We also offer vertical honeycomb blinds for sliding doors and windows.

Top-down bottom-up blinds offer greater privacy control than regular blinds. They can be raised from the bottom and lowered from the top to choose exact height levels and window exposure.

Our room-darkening honeycomb blinds use mylar as a blackout coating. Mylar is a high-tensile polyester film stretched over the blinds to improve thermal efficiency. It can also be found in food packaging, insulators, and space blankets.

A duster, microfibre cloth, or vacuum brush attachment are all suitable for targeting the exterior surfaces during your regular cleaning routine. Honeycomb blinds can also be cleaned using a damp cloth with warm water and detergent or mixing one part water with one part vinegar.

For the interior cells, use compressed air to remove dust or bugs.

A stand-out advantage of honeycomb shades is their unique ability to dampen noise. This sought-after quality makes them a great choice for children’s rooms, living rooms, or any other area where making the most of space matters without compromising on style.

The cord-free sliding solution is a polished way to add colour, style, and insulation to patio doors and ranch sliders, some of the biggest window openings in the house where energy loss is often overlooked. It is also a perfect way to section off rooms.

Cordless blinds feature a unique system that allows you to raise or lower the blind by holding the bottom rail and gently lifting upward. For certain products, motorization can also be added for even easier control.

Single-cell shades have one layer of cells or pockets, while double-cell shades have two layers of cells. Our innovative Honeycomb Shades feature a unique D-cell structure, which provides unparalleled insulation and makes it our most energy-efficient product.

A state-of-the-art honeycomb structure traps air between the cells to help keep your space at the optimal temperature in every season. Nearly as budget-friendly as standard blinds, upgrading to honeycomb shades is an affordable way to reduce your carbon footprint.

Portrait™ Honeycomb shades come in a wide variety of on-trend colours and delicately textured fabrics to match your décor. Their compact design is artfully minimalist, offering a crisp look that won’t distract from your view.

Portrait™ Honeycomb fabrics offer 3 different opacities from sheer to light filtering to room darkening. Room darkening and blackout fabrics significantly calm and darken rooms, up to 100% of UV light. Light-filtering fabrics block approximately 90% of UV light and help to create the perfect mellowed-out area. With sheer fabrics, they block as little as 49.9% of UV light for beautifully softened views of the outside and warm gentle light coming in. For complete darkness blackout shades are an ideal option.

Have a question about Outdoor Blinds?

Outdoor blinds are an elegant solution for adding extra cover to your outdoor living spaces. They enhance privacy, block the light, and provide some shelter from the elements such as rain and wind. With 14 colour options, including dark green, outdoor blinds can provide extra visual interest and texture to your outdoor living spaces.

Our Omni Lite outdoor blinds roll down and connect to an anchor point in the ground when in use. To minimise fabric movement in the wind, make sure the screen is taut and the bottom locks are engaged. For storage, roll the blinds up until their next use.

Calculating the dimensions for an outdoor blind requires a pen or pencil, paper, and long measuring tape. For more information, read our outdoor blind measuring guide.

Setting up outdoor blinds requires a measuring tape, a spirit level, a box knife, a drill, and a screw tip. For step-by-step instructions, read our how-to guide on installing outdoor blinds.

Outdoor blinds should be retracted when not in use to minimise exposure to outdoor elements and prolong their performance. Avoid rolling up your outdoor blinds when wet.

Outdoor blinds are a valuable tool for reducing wind impact when spending time outside. We recommend retracting the screen in gusty or high wind conditions.

Our outdoor blinds use Shadeview fabric. Designed to diffuse light while providing optimal shelter from the outdoor elements, Shadeview products are available at NZ Blinds in 14 coloured weave options.

Our outdoor blinds are appropriate for residential and commercial spaces. Choose from 14 colour options and customise the dimensions to suit the desired setting and style.

Have a question about Wooden Blinds?

Our wooden blinds are built from Phoenixwood. Also known as Paulownia, this lightweight timbre features a prominent, natural grain. Its physical properties make it among the highest-performing materials for strength-to-weight ratios across wooden and non-wooden blinds.

Phoenixwood undergoes a meticulous treatment process, beginning with kiln drying and prescriptive conditioning. Once quarter sawn to highlight the depth and character of the grain, the final sanding and coating process yields a premium furniture finish.

Faux wood Venetian blinds are more durable in heat and moisture-prone environments, making them suitable for areas where wooden blinds are not. It is also recommended to clean wooden blinds with dry methods, whereas faux wood blinds can be wiped with a damp cloth.

Phoenixwood Venetian blinds add a sophisticated touch to indoor living spaces without drawing attention to themselves. They also feature a SmartPrivacy® patent that positions the route holes at the back of the slats instead of the middle. This reduces light leakage and improves privacy. Our wooden blinds also use the latest PVC headrail to eliminate the need for a separate valance.

Wooden blinds are most suitable for areas not exposed to regular or high humidity, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. We recommend installing wooden blinds in bedrooms or lounge spaces.

The first step to prolonging your wooden blinds’ lifespan is installing them in the most appropriate environment. Once set up, avoid introducing steam or moisture from external sources such as humidifiers.

Wooden blinds are a popular choice for introducing a subtle layer of luxury to an indoor living space. Choosing the optimal colour is important and will depend on the design and aesthetic choices of the room where you plan to install your wooden Venetian blinds.

Choose a colour that provides some contrast between lighter and darker shades of brown and white. As a key component of the negative space in each room, blinds can enhance the aura of a space through thoughtful colour selection.

Dry methods such as dusters, soft cloths, or the brush attachment on a vacuum are most suitable for cleaning wooden blinds. Wet applications with cloths or wipes may damage or warp the slats over time. Consider using a gentle furniture polish or wooden cleaning agent to keep your wooden blinds pristine.

Have a question about Roller Blinds?

Roller blinds are compact and space-efficient, making them a discreet addition to any indoor space. For those in colder areas, thermal blinds are ideal for maintaining warmth. Blackout roller blinds provide excellent coverage, blocking sunlight during the day and light sources at night.

Roller blinds are also customisable with custom-print options and sunscreen styles that can be paired with thermal or blackout features.

Roller blind chains should be gently pulled according to the desired direction. This simple mechanism is accessible and intuitive for users without sacrificing control.

Motorisation is also available, wired or wireless.

Our roller blinds come with standard continuous plastic chains in white, black, cream, or grey, matching the blind’s colour. Stainless steel metal chains are also available for an additional charge.

Blackout roller blinds may be practical for indoor spaces exposed to sunlight to mitigate UV and heat, but installing a sunscreen option can preserve the view of your business or workspace, benefiting customers and/or employees. Consider buying a combo blind to combine the benefits of thermal or blackout blinds with sunscreens.

For regular maintenance, extend the roller blinds fully; there’s no need to dismantle them. Using a brush head attachment on your vacuum, vacuum both sides to remove dust, dirt, or cobwebs. Manage any excess dirt with a damp cloth. Allow the blinds to dry before rolling them up again.

For deep cleans, refer to the manufacturer’s care instructions and specifications before removing the blinds from the bracket. Some blinds can be soaked in warm, soapy water, while most can be wiped thoroughly with a non-abrasive cloth.

Our roller blinds can be produced and sent to order according to your window’s dimensions. Use our helpful calculator to input the width and drop for instant pricing.

Our blackout blinds are made of 100% polyester, and some feature an acrylic coating or a framed acrylic backing.

Our thermal roller blinds consist of a 100% polyester composition with a foamed flocked acrylic backing.

Our sunscreen roller blinds are made from polyester with a PVC coating that is conducive to heat reduction and thorough cleaning.

We offer a special combination of roller blinds where the benefits of multiple blinds converge into a dual package that still allows for independent usage.

Our sunscreen blinds can be ordered with thermal or blackout blinds for a special shade solution. Mix & match colours and give yourself two options in one window space.

NZ Blinds offers custom-printed roller blinds with blackout or sunscreen blind options. Send us a high-resolution image you would like your blind to have. Great for gifts, upgrading your workplace, or adding a personal touch to indoor living spaces, we work closely with you to ensure the final product is what you imagined.

Have a question about Faux Wood Blinds?

Our faux wood blinds are composed of compressed polystyrene slats. We offer two types of faux wood blinds. The standard faux wood build is manufactured in New Zealand from imported materials, and Norman wood Venetian blinds are delivered from industry-leading manufacturers. We offer some faux wood blinds with a 5 day turnaround.

Faux wood blinds are more versatile across indoor spaces because they are less sensitive to heat and moisture than wooden blinds. There are also more methods available to clean faux wood blinds without risking the integrity of the slats. Wooden blinds are limited to dry methods or wood finish products, whereas faux wood blinds are washable in a bath or wiped down.

Faux wood blinds are a popular option for their durability. Their robust construction makes them appropriate for rooms that other types of blinds would be less suited towards. Faux wood blinds are resilient to prolonged exposure to indoor elements such as humidity, steam, and moisture. Style is not compromised by function with our range of faux wood blinds. Ideal for rental properties.

Due to their heat and moisture-resistant properties, faux wood blinds are suitable for any area of your home. With colour options in white and tan that imitate a wooden grain, faux wood blinds can fit into various interior design styles.

Faux wood blinds are resistant to UV rays and heat, making them suitable for areas of the house that are exposed to the sun throughout the day and year.

Faux wood blinds can be cleaned using multiple methods depending on how thoroughly and often you want to clean them. For frequent tidying, dusting the blinds with a cloth, duster, or vacuum with a brush attachment will suffice. Wet cloths are effective for more stubborn stains. Removing the blinds and cleaning them in a bath or shower is possible for the deepest clean.

Venetian blinds are generally designed to be left lowered and resting just above the bottom window sill. They should be raised fully when opening, closing, or cleaning the window.
