Getting Your Bach Summer Ready

The time is now.

To get your bach ready for the long awaited summer season. These longer and warmer days practically force you to go outside and start enjoying weekends away and time in the garden.

It may seem like there is a bit of work to do at first but by following our tips, your bach will be summer, beach, and family ready in no time.

Breath Out. When you arrive at the bach open up every single window and door to get that fresh air whistling through the whole house. Consider placing indoor plants around the home to filter the air. Some even improve air quality so get some advice at your local garden centre for easy care houseplants.

Update your beach supply. Make sure there are enough towels, sunscreen, chairs, umbrella, beach toys for youngsters, you get the idea.

Top up the pantry. Something about all that fresh air can make you very hungry so a good supply of snack-related foods on hand will be in demand.

Is Family arriving too? Estimate how many beds you will need at the busiest time and encourage guests to bring their own sheets. Summer holidays are for swimming, relaxing and good conversation, not spending lots of time washing, drying and folding the laundry.

It’s not called “Spring” cleaning for nothing. A good dusting of surfaces as well as cleaning and caring for your bach blinds goes a long way toward freshening up the house. Emptying and turning off the refrigerator and cleaning with a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda will deplete any odours lurking inside. But don’t forget to turn it back on again!

The Great Outdoors. They will be a lot of alfresco dining over the coming months so you want your outdoor furniture looking good and feeling comfortable. Invest in weather resistant cushions for the deck chairs and loungers, consider a coat of paint for the wooden furniture and tighten any wobbly chairs. If your bach has a lawn or a garden now is the time for a generous watering and fertiliser feeding so everyone can enjoy the feeling of grass between their toes.

Check for unwanted guests. Has a mouse or a colony of ants moved in since your last visit? A trip to your local home improvement store has a large range of products to send them packing. Minimise mosquitoes by eliminating any standing water from around the house.

Have a good look at your window frames and furnishings.

Do they provide you with privacy? You don’t want to start off a vacation to find the house has been burgled. Ensure all window locks are doing their job and the blinds are fitted properly making it hard for prying eyes to see in.

Do your blinds block out the sun? What is a holiday without a sleep-in or two? Beautiful days are fantastic but unless you want the light to wake you at 5:30 every morning, blackout roller blinds in all the bedrooms are your best friend.

What about furniture fade? Living areas are the perfect place for sunscreen blinds which provide glare and heat control. New Zealand’s very high levels of ultraviolet light love to age and devalue your furniture and flooring. Our sunscreen roller blinds are ideal for protecting your furniture and equipment from the sun’s harmful UV rays, while still maintaining your view.

Our combo blinds are dual functioning which offers a contemporary, double bracket solution for roller blinds that offer blackout and sunscreen blinds in one.

Want something new and different? Consider a customised or designer roller blind. Choosing from our own licensed designs or using a photograph of your own, our custom made roller blindsare the perfect way to liven up and individualise your bach.

Depending on how you like your bach-life to be – the bare essentials or totally kitted out, you may have to make a few trips, but this is merely a great excuse to getaway and make the most of Spring before a long, well organised and comfortable Summer holiday at the bach.
