Waterproof Woodlore Plus is a manufactured product developed for, but not restricted to, moisture area applications. It is made using a synthetic material called ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). It is useful for moisture area applications such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundries etc., as moisture coming in contact with this material does not cause damage. Please be aware that although this product is waterproof, it is not suitable for exterior applications.
The louvres have a cellular structure which creates pockets of air, providing a very high level of thermal resistance. This will prevent heat loss in winter, and keep the room cooler in summer. The energy savings and resulting reduced heating/cooling costs can also be very beneficial.
Waterproof Woodlore Plus shutters come with Stainless Steel hardware. If using Waterproof Woodlore Plus in an area, such as a shower, where it will get wet all the time, then choose your framing carefully as some framing options have timber parts within them.
Colour – Waterproof Woodlore Plus is available in a range of 12 standard paint colours. Our offering Pure White is by far the most popular. Waterproof Woodlore Plus is unable to be stained. Waterproof Woodlore Plus can be custom coloured in light colours only (surcharge applies).
Colour Fastness – As Waterproof Woodlore Plus is available in solid paint colours only, it is not susceptible to colour change.
Hardness – Waterproof Woodlore Plus is a hard wearing material and is more resistant to knocks and bumps than timber.
Warping – As this is a type of plastic and is not susceptible to any movement so warping is not an issue. In addition, the timber core used within the louvres is laminated, giving it greater strength and resistance to sagging.
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is made by copolymerizing (combining two or more monomers) the monomers Acrylonitrile (CH2CHCN) and styrene (C6H5CH9CH2). Acrylonitrile and styrene are dissolved in polybutadiene rubber [8CH9CH8CH9CH8], which allows these monomers to form chains by attaching to the rubber molecules.
The advantage of ABS is that this material combines the strength and rigidity of the Acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the toughness of the polybutadiene rubber. Although the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing polystyrene, ABS is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties. ABS plastic is injection moulded to make telephones, helmets, washing machine agitators, and pipe joints. This plastic is thermoformed to make luggage, golf carts, toys, and car grills. ABS is also extruded to make piping, to which pipe joints are easily solvent-cemented.
