Description

Honeycomb Blinds by Norman

Overview

45mm Honeycomb Blinds

Our 45mm honeycomb blinds feature the largest cell size in the honeycomb range, creating a softer, more contemporary appearance than the more compact 25mm option. The wider honeycomb cells trap a larger pocket of insulating air between two layers of fabric, helping improve thermal performance while enhancing comfort throughout the year.

Available in both light-filtering and room-darkening fabrics, 45mm honeycomb blinds can be tailored to suit different rooms and lighting requirements. Every blind is custom-made to your exact window measurements and delivered throughout New Zealand with free nationwide shipping.

Choose the Right Fabric

Light-Filtering 45mm Honeycomb Blinds

The light-filtering fabric softens harsh sunlight into gentle, diffused natural light, reducing glare while maintaining a bright, inviting interior. During the day, the fabric provides privacy while still allowing natural light to enter, making it an excellent choice for living rooms, family rooms, dining areas, home offices, and open-plan spaces. At night, with interior lights on, the fabric provides full privacy from outside.

Room-Darkening 45mm Honeycomb Blinds

The room-darkening fabric incorporates a mylar blackout coating—a stretched polyester film that blocks the majority of incoming light while increasing the blind’s insulating performance beyond the fabric alone. This is the most thermally efficient honeycomb fabric option available, making it ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, and shift workers who require greater light control and enhanced insulation.

If you simply want to reduce glare while maintaining a brighter room, the light-filtering option is the better choice.

Key Features

  • Large 45mm single-cell honeycomb construction with a modern, visible cell profile.
  • Excellent thermal insulation through an insulating air pocket within each cell.
  • Choice of light-filtering or room-darkening mylar-coated fabrics.
  • Custom-made to your exact window measurements.
  • Available in three operating systems:
    • Corded (standard)
    • SmartRise cordless
    • Top Down Bottom Up (TDBU)
  • TDBU operation allows the blind to be lowered from the top while remaining closed at the bottom, providing natural light and privacy at the same time.
  • Child-safe cordless options available.
  • Imported and manufactured to custom specifications.

Specifications

  • 45mm single-cell honeycomb construction.
  • Light-filtering or room-darkening mylar-coated fabric.
  • Cord options: Corded, SmartRise cordless, or Top Down Bottom Up (TDBU).
  • Standard factory side clearance: 6mm per side. If reducing light gaps is important, adding approximately 2–3mm to your measured width can minimise the clearance.

How to Order

Measure your window width and drop in millimetres, then select your preferred fabric, colour, operating system, and mounting style. Your blinds will be custom-made to your specifications and delivered anywhere in New Zealand with free nationwide delivery.

Measuring & Installing Guides

Have a question about Honeycomb Blinds?

Light-filtering honeycomb blinds use a translucent fabric that softens incoming sunlight into a gentle glow — reducing glare on screens and providing daytime privacy without darkening the room. They are ideal for living rooms, kitchens and home offices.

Yes. The 45mm honeycomb cells trap a layer of air between two fabric walls, creating a thermal barrier at the window. Honeycomb blinds can increase the thermal insulation of a window by up to three times that of a normal curtain.

The 25mm cell has a slim, low-profile look that sits close to the glass — ideal for smaller windows or a discreet finish. The 45mm cell is larger and more visible with a softer, more relaxed appearance — popular for living rooms and feature windows. Both offer excellent insulation.

TDBU is a honeycomb blind configuration that lets you lower the blind from the top as well as raise it from the bottom. This gives you precise control over light and privacy — for example, you can block the lower half for privacy while letting light in from the top.

Honeycomb Blinds, also known as Thermacell,  are an attractive cellular blind that are renowned for their insulation properties. They can increase the thermal insulation of your window by up to 3 times that of a normal curtain. Our most popular is the Room Darkening Fabric – this is great for darkening and warming the bedrooms or older single glazed homes.

Other Honeycomb options include corded (the most cost effective option),  cordless (SmartRise) perfect for those with young children and  top down bottom up SmartRise (the ultimate) are all very popular.

With standard factory clearances there is a 6.0mm gap between the jamb and the fabric on each side so some light bleed does occur at the side of the blind.
